Chainbreakers is a turn-based RPG game with survival and crafting elements. It is created for Toasty's 2026 Game Jam!

STORY

Play as the orc Fjell, a slave in the mines ran by the Master's Domain. After the death of his father in the hand of cruel taskmasters, the young shaman received his father's visions of an impending disaster. With the goal to reunite with his clan and save them from calamity, the orc decides that now is the time to break free from his chains. Using the resources of the underground mines, as well as his father's notes, he prepares for his escape until he is strong enough to fight his captors and the monsters that lurk the caverns.

Now is the time to break these chains and fight for freedom!

GAMEPLAY

Chainbreakers is a classic turn-based RPG game. Though there's a catch: you don't gain EXP or Level Up.

Your main way of gaining strength is though hard physical labor. You must mine ore, chop wood, and work on the smith to grow your HP, Attack, and Resistance, move around the mines to grow your Speed and Defense, and finally discover new enemies and craft items (can be Consumables or Equipment) to grow your Intelligence. On top of that, you must also craft your own spells from the many rare gems that you collected.

As you explore the mines, you will encounter various hostile monstrosities, each dropping necessary resources for future crafting. Hunt cockatrices for their feathers and meat, bats for their leather, and skeletons for their bones. Then use those materials to force stronger equipment and enough consumables until you're ready to face the floor's bosses.
